What the studies say

100% plant glycerin

What is established It holds water in the upper layers of the skin, improves hydration and supports the barrier function. It is one of the best-documented moisturising ingredients.

The limits The effect depends on concentration and formula; the reviews cited summarise studies carried out with products other than ours.

Colloidal oatmeal

What is established It forms a film that limits water loss. In a study of 29 people with very dry skin, a colloidal oatmeal lotion reduced dryness, roughness and itch; its avenanthramides calm inflammation in the laboratory.

The limits The anti-inflammatory effects were shown in the laboratory and in animals; the clinical studies are small and partly funded by a manufacturer.

Aloe vera

What is established In volunteers, formulas containing 0.1% to 0.5% aloe vera extract increased the hydration of the skin’s upper layer after two weeks.

The limits In the same study, water loss through the skin did not change; according to a review, most other uses rest mainly on anecdotal evidence.

Olive squalane

What is established Squalene makes up about 13% of human sebum; squalane, its stable form, is an emollient that softens the skin without a greasy film.

The limits The evidence rests mainly on reviews and laboratory studies; there is no robust clinical trial of squalane alone.

These results concern the ingredients, at the concentrations studied, not our finished products. Each product will undergo its own tests before any claim appears on the label.
