COSMOS: what the natural cosmetics label guarantees
By Jeremy Fain, founder of Restelys. Updated 17 October 2026. 2 sources cited.
Ecocert, Cosmebio and other European bodies founded a common standard. Here it is, plainly.
The COSMOS standard was created by five European certification bodies for organic and natural cosmetics, brought together in an international association. It has two levels: COSMOS Natural and COSMOS Organic.
It governs the origin of ingredients, permitted processing, preservatives, packaging and the environmental management of the manufacturing site, with an annual audit.
It certifies the product, but also the brand that sells it: a long-term commitment, and the one we are aiming for with our six care products.
